HOW IT BEGAN
The journey for Mom’s Aachar begins in the midst of December 2019. The founder, Mrs. Bimala Hada Thakur, had always had a passion for pickling different vegetables, fruits, and spices, to create unique flavors to add on top of South Asian cuisine. Those who had the opportunity to try her garnish immediately recognized the authentic and exceptional flavor it offered, often questioning why she had not started her own pickling business. With persistent inquiry from friends and family alike, the idea of starting on her business endeavor sprouted, and by the beginning of 2020, she finally had considered the idea.

Mrs. Thakur’s son, Bidhan, was her main pillar for the business, always showing unwavering support for her endeavor into entrepreneurship, despite her lack of experience in the sector. She started her journey by selling to the local Nepalese community which surrounded her. Bidhan was always by her side, pushing marketing, and creating excitement around her products. They had finally started a new chapter in their life, and it was one with promise and hope intertwined.

However, tragedy struck the Thakur family in 2021 with the sudden passing of her son Bidhan. The event crippled her, pushing Mrs. Thakur into a deep depression and disconnection from reality. In time, though, she understood the importance of her business, knowing that it was the one thing her son left behind that was still thriving. This pushed her to continue with the dream Bidhan envisioned. All her ever wanted was for his mother’s food to be shared with the world, and she found the strength to restart, and carry on.

Since then, she’s embraced her son’s vision, pushing forward into another chapter of her life, this one once again filled with hope, but also uncertainty. It marks the beginning to a new hope, a new dream, and since 2021 she’s reembraced on her inspiring journey, fueled by a desire to fulfill her son's dream and share her culinary talents with people across the globe.

This is the new beginning of Mom’s Aachar.
